It's always a great day when we get a visit from our friend, Dr. Luis Viquez. Dr. Viquez is Professor of Clarinet and Director of Orchestras at the University of South Dakota (USD) He's one of the most interesting and personable people I've ever met, and we're so glad he's in Siouxland.
It’s days like today that we’re reminded of what a wonderful community Sioux City is! Yesterday we noticed a that a Bach Strad Professional Trumpet priced at $2,899. was missing from our show floor…Upon further investigation, we realized the instrument had been stolen and was listed on Facebook for sale! Less than 3 hours later, Sgt. Bill Melville assembled a team and the amazing Sioux City Police Department set-up a sting, recovered the stolen trumpet and arrested the thief!
We're always on the lookout for innovative products. One little nugget we found this year at NAMM 2018 was Key Leaves. Since about 7th grade, I've always been frustrated when my saxophone G# key sticks.
We’re so glad everybody at Midbell is safe and we’re glad to be back at work, ready to help our valued customer and friends.
Today was a neat day for our Learning Center’s New Horizon’s Band. Their holiday party was postponed because of the cold, so they had a mini-party today celebrating the New Year before rehearsal.
On this cold Monday afternoon, I'm taking a moment to appreciate the profound impact of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's work. Jazz is in the air as Siouxland High School bands diligently prepare their contest repertoire for multiple area jazz festivals. As a community music supporter, music retailer and jazz lover to the core, it brings me joy to share the below MLK speech with you.
MSFQ stands for "More to Start, Fewer to Quit"
Playing in a school band can be an enriching experience for students. It allows them to develop their musical skills, work in a team, and perform in front of an audience. As a band director, keeping students engaged and motivated to continue playing in the school band is key to building a successful program. The Music Achievement Council has put together MSFQ (More to Start, Fewer to Quit) tips, and we have included them on our site for easy access!
