Mid-Bell Music Company was founded in 1939 by Jess MIDdaugh and Sam CampBELL in Fort Dodge, IA. After decades of ownership changes and branch store openings, the Sioux City, IA location was opened in 1972, planting roots that would become the heart of the Midbell story.
That Sioux City store was eventually purchased by Ray & Karen Guntren. As other stores of the original company have been sold, the Sioux City store remains the only Midbell in the world and is now proudly second generation owned by Mike and LeAnn Guntren.
With the continued support of musicians, parents, and music educators, 2022 marked 50 years of serving Siouxland from our single location. We’re grateful to support local musicians, school music programs, institutions in four states, and online clients worldwide, all while staying committed to the personal relationships that have always defined us.
Today, Ray’s Midbell Music serves school bands and orchestras as well as local musicians and the rock and roll community while offering 200 lessons weekly out of our store. Whether you’re a beginner, pro, band director, or a weekend warrior chasing the next great thing, we’re here to help make a better sounding Siouxland!
